A free independent national service funded by the Ministry of Health for NZ residents or citizens aged 16 years+ who are experiencing communication difficulties due to hearing impairment. Referrals can be made by Doctors, Audiologists, health professionals or by self referral.

A Hearing Therapist can:
- Do a hearing assessment and discuss any hearing issues with you
- Teach ways of improving communication skills  
- Help you use your hearing more effectively
- Help you use your hearing aid(s) to greater effect 
- Give information about equipment available to assist with daily living, e.g. telephone, television
- Offer information and advice on funding options
- Offer practical advice to people with tinnitus
- Provide information about hearing loss and its prevention to professional groups, voluntary organisations and the general public
