Overview - IWI & Maori
Best Care (Whakapai Hauora) Charitable Trust ('Whakapai Hauora'), is the health, social service and disability service provider arm of Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporated, the mandated iwi authority for Rangitaane O Manawatu. As one of the operational arms of TMI, Whakapai Hauora works closely with other TMI entities, such as Kia Ora FM 89.8 (the only bilingual Maori Radio Station in the Manawatu) With an audience capacity exceeding one hundred and twenty thousand (of whom over fourteen thousand are Maori), Kia Ora FM offers an excellent opportunity for Whakapai Hauora to communicate health education and promotion messages through chat shows, talkback interviews and health advertising. Tune in on a Monday between 9.00am and 10.00am to listen to our health show. Though Whakapai Hauora is an iwi owned and operated provider, its health, social and disability services are provided to everyone.

If transport is a barrier to access the services, home visits can be made so let the relevant Whakapai Hauora staff member know you wish to have a home visit to be made when making the appointment.

As part of this service we also offer facilitation services and whanau/family care and support services. Confidentiality is assured.

When your baby reaches 4-6 weeks old, your Lead Maternity Carer (Midwife, Doctor, Obstetrician) will  refer you to ongoing care. Whakapai Hauora provides such services through our Registered Nurse Emma Davis.

We provide support, advice and information on all Tamariki Ora Health related issues, including:

Kaupapa-

Enhancing the capacity of communities to define and address gambling harm by:
Implementing health promotion projects in relation to Maori Problem Gambling

Our Cancer Coordinator will work across the cancer control continuum for Maori, either before or at the diagnosis of cancer who require ongoing support in the community.

Services:
The service will include;
 Supporting clients and their whanau to cancer services;
 Improving the level of communication and facilitate increased knowledge/information  cancer;
 Supporting Maori community development initiatives for cancer;
 Improve the delivery of health promotion and education about cancer; and
 Support cancer service coordination for the diagnosed patient and their whanau.

The service is free and available to all eligible persons resident in Palmerston North City.

This service is provided in a range of settings including;
 Marae;
 Schools;
 Te Kohanga Reo;
 In private homes where appropriate; and
