Attention Deficit Disorders

MidCentral Health has a standardised process for assessing and treating children with ADHD across Child Health, the Child Adolescent and Family Mental Health Service and Oranga Hinengaro Maori Mental Health Services.

How to seek help

Discuss the problems with the class teacher and school. Assessment by Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) or service.

See your GP for a general health check. Make sure vision and hearing is OK.

Home parenting strategies. There are many books available and some community support groups. Talk to other parents.

If there are still problems after these steps then referral to MidCentral Health may be appropriate. Your GP can help with this in conjunction with the school. The Home and School Behavioural Assessment Forms need to be completed.

See MidCentral Health website for more information on health referral options and infromation forms.
